Flowood's Got Talent - What's Your Talent?

Are you ready to show off your talents?  We only have one day left until the Flowood Teen Karaoke Night.  Join us Thursday, September 26th, at 6pm and perform your favorite Karaoke song.  If you don't want to perform, how about joining us for pizza and sodas, and cheering on your friends.  We look forward to hearing your fabulous voices and hanging out with you.

Did you see the fantastic Alien Art that was turned in for our contest?  Kennedy was our winner and received 2 gift cards from our amazing teen program sponsors as her prize.  Kennedy will get some free pizza from Little Caesars and get to do a little shopping at Five Below as her reward for winning the Teen Alien Art contest.

Keep watching for the fun things we have in store for October!  It will be a Spooktacular month!

Alien Art Contest at the Flowood Library

Aliens are appearing all around the Flowood Library as teens submit their art entries for our contest.

We will display these colorful aliens and have voting to determine the winner. Have you shown us your art skills and turned in your alien yet? The deadline is fast approaching.  All aliens must be turned in to a Flowood staff member by September 20th to compete in the art contest. Will you be the winner? If you haven't come by yet to pick up your coloring page alien, we have them back in the TEEN ZONE!

After all the excitement of the siege on Area 51, what is coming up next? We have a TEEN KARAOKE NIGHT planned for September 26th at 6pm in the large meeting room. Come perform you favorite (library appropriate) song. Come in costume if you desire. Show off your skills or support your friends who are performing. Pizza and drinks will be provided while supplies last!

Alien Invasion in the Flowood Teen Zone

Flowood library has had an alien invasion and we need your help! Our aliens are drab and boring and we need your artistic talents to brighten up the space. Come by and pick up an alien to color and enter to win our Teen Alien Art Contest. Just color your alien, write your name and contact number on the back, and turn it into a library staff member by September 20th. The winner will be announced September 21st!

If you just want to relax and add to our current decor, pick some colors and add your special touch to our coloring sheets on the windows!

If art isn't your thing, but you need a selfie with an alien as you get ready to storm Area 51, stop by and visit our new friend. We also have a nice selection of Area 51 themed books if you need to do some research and preparation for the big day! Stay safe and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Special Doctor Who Event at Brandon!

Hello teens!

We at the Brandon Public Library have a very special event coming up! Prepare yourselves for Doctor Who Day!

Yes, I realize some of you might not know anything about Doctor Who (I will forgive you...in time), but this is the perfect opportunity to learn. If you like anything remotely Sci-Fi, British, funny, dramatic, or sarcastic, you will appreciate this show. This event is basically a mini-convention, so even if you are new to the series, you will get the chance to learn by watching those who are not. We will have trivia games for those hardcore Whovians, so brush up on your TARDIS knowledge. There will be mini-games that are not trivia related, but definitely fun for everyone. Don't forget the costume contest and the potluck! Yes, free food. You're welcome. The library will be providing the drinks, so make sure that you bring your favorite Doctor Who-themed dishes to share.

All ages are welcome to this event, so don't feel shy about bringing your friends, parents, or siblings. Be sure to be there Saturday, September 21 at 12:00pm. Allons-y!

Weird Science at Magee

One of the advantages of being old is that we had great everything! I grew up in the 80s and they were totally awesome, dude! The music, the clothes, the hair (MULLETS), and the movies. They were the best!

One of my favorite movies was Weird Science. It featured Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith as a pair of teenage geeks that use a computer to build the perfect girl. The girl helps them to be cool and popular. In the end, the two geeks finally learn that is cool to be who you  are.

The movie is filled with special effects that don't seem so special now and tons of laughs. It made liking science not seem so geeky. Or even all that weird. But, to me the cool thing about science is that it is weird sometimes.

So in honor of Weird Science, we will have some kinda weird science experiments in September for Tweens (5th - 8th grade) and Teens (9th - 12th grade).

Tweens will attempt to blow up a balloon on a plastic bottle. This will happen Monday, September 16 @ 4 p.m.

Teens will try to blow up a balloon inside a plastic bottle. It will be Monday, September 23 @ 4 p.m.

We invite all our Tweens and Teens to come by the library and explore a little weird science!
