What's New With Brandon

Hello Teens!

That time of year has come again: school is back in session. With the new school year comes some new events at the Brandon Public Library! As the picture shows, we have a new display above the YA section. Yes, this one is also a guessing game. The trick to this is to guess what the Dewey Decimal Number (or Call Number, whichever applies) is for each book "app". There are guessing sheets to fill out to make your life somewhat easier, so be sure to ask for the answer sheets when you stop by!

Coming up, we also will be featuring some new and old board games at our Middle Grade Game Night! Thursday, August 29 at 5:00 p.m., be sure to come and see what new games we have! This program is mostly for middle graders, but don't worry, teens are welcome as well.

Don't forget to come by the Children's Desk for research and homework tips! We have several different free resources that are helpful to any student trying to survive project or paper time. Don't worry, school isn't that far behind me; I still remember some good tips and tricks.

Teen Anime and Manga @ Pearl Library

 Hey all my Anime and Manga enthusiasts!  It’s that time again! Turkey Day is coming up soon and so is the next meeting of the Pearl Library Anime Club! The next meeting is November 19^th, 2012 from 6-7p.m.  As always you can read Manga, draw Manga and Anime, talk about Manga and Anime or just hang out and listen to everybody else talk about Manga and Anime.  Even you guys who don’t know anything about Manga and Anime are welcome to attend.  Believe me we will tell you every single detail we know (Can you say over share?)  But, hey, that’s what the Thanksgiving season is all about right?  It is Japanese tradition to give gifts at this time of year so our craft for this month is Furoshiki. Let’s all say it  together F-U-R-O-S-H-I-K-I. In other words the Japanese art of wrapping gifts in clothe.  Oh and did I mention that there will be snacks?  As always I want to say that Anime and Manga fans are the most interesting and talented people around so we hope to see you there!

Ever wondered what you could do with those old floppy disks or scratched cds? Come to the Pearl Public Library on Monday, November 29th, at 5:00 to find out! We will be making diskette notebooks and cd magnets. We will even be serving refreshments and giving away a door prize! Also, Teen Scene is moving. Starting in December, Teen Scene will take place on the first Saturday of the month at 1:00. Join us Saturday, December 4th, for "Year in Rewind Trivia". Can you believe the 2010 Summer Reading Program is ending? Could you be the winner of our grand prize, a Sony Mp3 Player? Join the Pearl Public Library Monday night, July 12, at 6:00 for Teen Craft Night. Teens who are 12 and up are invited to make a variety of crafts including "Message in a bottle" and "Sand Mosaics". It's hot outside! So, come cool off at our Beach side Dance-off this Monday @ 6:00 at the Pearl Public Library. Teens ages 12 and up are welcome to this program.
