If you're looking for a relatively quick read that is thought-provoking, try the less-dead by April Lurie.
Noah Nordstrom is the son of the Bible Answer Guy who hosts a popular Christian radio show. And that is Noah's biggest problem, so he thinks. Noah does not think like his father and when a serial killer begins targeting gay teens, Noah's anti-religious feelings intensify. The killer chooses his victims among foster children--victims whose deaths will not be too important to society. Thus they are called the less-dead. After a new acquaintance becomes the third victim, Noah decides to investigate and prove that someone does care.

Be warned -- the author's purpose in this novel is 'to persuade.' To persuade you to rethink what you believe about homosexuality and whether it's sinful or not.
