Happy Juneteenth Day

Juneteenth celebrates the liberation of African Americans from slavery in the U.S. and reflects back on the culture and celebrates it. The reason for it being celebrated on June 19 is because, on this day in 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger of the Union Army landed in Texas, he brought the news that the Civil War had ended and all slaves were free. Texas was the first state to recognize it as a state holiday.
How can you recognize it?
1. Display the flag
The lone star represents the State of Texas being the first.
The starburst represents new beginnings.
The colors red, white, and blue represent that we are all Americans.

2. Attend a celebration
3. Watch a movie about slavery (Click here to see what CMRLS has)
