A "Starry Night" Escape into a Great Teen Program at the Pearl Library!

Vincent van Gogh Painting "The Starry Night".
Summer Library Program 2019, A Universe of Stories, a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the 1969 Apollo 11 landing, is blasting off in a big way at the Pearl Public Library!

Coming up is Art 101: Paint Van Gogh's "Starry Night" on Mon. June 10 at 5:30 p.m.! Watercolors will be used to paint a selection of Van Gogh's masterpieces including Starry Night, Sunflowers and Self Portrait!

"The life of Van Gogh will be a highlight of the program," says Kristen Hillman, the Pearl Library's Youth Services Supervisor.

She said they'll even watch a video of his life. OMG! That's going to be interesting!

If you know anything about Van Gogh, a discussion of his life can't help but be a "highlight"!
Yes, this man, who was extremely talented, was also quite mentally disturbed.

Yep, the dude even severed part of his own left ear! And, let's be serious. You just can't off your own ear without consequences, ya know!

Reportedly, this led Van Gogh  to spend some time in a mental facility and while there he ate paint and drank turpentine. Mmmm mmmm, doesn't that sound yummy! NOT!

But, oddly enough, the staff at the institution would calm Van Gogh down by letting him paint!

There you have it! Want to be a great artist? Go crazy for while! Juusssssst kidding! Don't do that!

But do plan on coming and being a part of this great, fun program!

If this past Monday's teen night, Blacklight Galaxy Painting Party is any indication of the interest in this year's Summer Library Programming, which runs for six weeks ending Sat. July 13, Kristen says she should see another great crowd!

"We had 35 teens attend the Blacklight Galaxy Painting event. It was so much fun to see what every body created using glow in the dark paint that the library provided," she said. "Blacklight is always a favorite program for the teens. We are really excited about all the awesome teen programming we have planned this summer. It's a great lineup and all programs are FREE!"

We'll see you there!
