Cosplay Fun at Flowood Library Teen Night

The Cosplay Costuming and Make Up tutorial night was a huge success. We had our biggest turn out ever with 26 attendees and a service dog!

Special guest Rae of RaeBae Cosplay and Magically Perfect, LLC taught attendees how to morph yourself into your character using her tried and true make up methods. They then made a fun group video.

Special guests Airship Demensa brought craft supplies and worked with attendees to make props and costume parts for their own designs. Participants brought drawings of their costume plans and Anthony from Airship Demensa taught them how to turn their drawings into real costumes and props. Teens went home with their creations. Some examples of what they made include crowns, swords, belts, and wrist cuffs.

Special thanks to COOMES VENDING for donating drinks for the event.

Join us in February for an Old School Valentine's Day Party and a night of DIY Button Making. On February 13th we will throwback to our elementary school days and have a party with our homemade valentines boxes, cards to share, and chocolate treats. On February 27th we will draw our own designs and then make our art into buttons using the library's button maker.

Flowood Teens Learn Dungeons & Dragons and some Cosplay Techniques

We've been learning how to play Dungeons and Dragons over the past few months at the Flowood Library.  Our Dungeon Master has patiently taught new players how to create their character and how to play.  Last Saturday we had our biggest turnout yet with 17 players!  Our role playing teens often come in cosplay as well, so you will see many characters you recognize in the photo below of our game on Saturday!

Tomorrow we will have special guests Airship Demenca and Rae from Magically Perfect, LLC come to talk to the teens about how to make cosplay costumes and props, and how to do their make-up for the costumes they choose.  We will have crafting areas set up to work on making props.  Rae will give make-up tips and suggest products that have worked best for her.

Special thanks to Airship Demenca and Rae from Magically Perfect, LLC for donating their time and expertise.

Hello Teens!

I hope you found a lifeboat for these floods we've been having! Despite the oncoming storms, we  still have several things going on at the Brandon Public Library! Here's a few things to keep in mind in the weeks to come:

1) Video Game Day will be Saturday, January 18 from 12:00pm - 3:00pm. We are bringing out ALL of our gaming systems, so don't miss out on this day of fun!

2) The library will be closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, January 20).

3) For the new year, we have some new Reader's Advisory bookmarks! They are right outside Ms. Summer's office door as well as above the Young Adult New Book display. Take one to get some ideas for some new reads!

4) Don't forget to check out our Facebook page for pictures of our Teen and Middle Grade events! See yourself in action or just grab a glimpse of what you've missed. Just look for the Central Mississippi Regional Library System page and scroll through the albums to find the Brandon events.

Try to keep dry and keep safe!

See you soon!

What's up in 2020 for the Flowood Teens?

We are starting off 2020 with a Teen Game Night at the Flowood Library on Thursday, January 9th at 6pm. The XBox One is all updated and ready to go. We'll bring out the old Wii for a dance off. Board games and card games will be ready. All we need is a fun group of teens ready to challenge each other to game! We will have pizza and sodas so no one gets hangry while they play. If you have a favorite library appropriate game that you want to bring and share, we'd love to see it. Let's play...

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Let's Paint!

One of my favorite things to do on a lazy Saturday afternoon is to find a rerun of The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. That guy was as mellow as they come! But, he was also very talented. He made painting look so easy!

I have never been good at painting. You name it, I stink at it. Water colors, house, abstract, even finger painting is difficult for me. You may be the same. But, that all changes this month!

We will have a special guest come to the Magee Library and teach us how to paint in the dark! Yes, I said in the dark. It's called Blacklight Painting and it is cool! Miss Kristen will be our "Bob Ross" and make it so simple even I can do it!

So if you are a Tween, grades 5th to 8th, join us January 13th at 4 p.m.

Teens, 9th to 12th grade, you will be up on January 27th at 4 p.m.

Either way, this is an event you do not want to miss. Regardless of your abilities, you will leave with a masterpiece! So, lights out, PAINT!

Hello Teens!

We've made it! It's a new year, and a new decade! May this year bring you all nothing but joy, laughter, and peace!

Our "What's The Title?" guessing game has now been updated for January! Try to guess the title of the shredded novel in the jar to earn a prize at the end of the month! Last month's novel title was [🥁]: Winter by Marissa Meyer (the final book in the Lunar Chronicles)! Congrats to the winners and good luck for this month's round!

Here's a brief look at some of our upcoming events for middle graders & teens (at 5:00 pm on Mondays):

January 6: Middle Grade Monday-Snap Circuits
January 13: Teen Time-DIY Hot Chocolate
January 20: CLOSED FOR HOLIDAY
January 27: Middle Grade Monday AND Teen Time-Make Your Own Zen Garden

Also, don't forget about our January Family Night Thursday, the 23rd. Join in our Mad Hatter Tea Party and see which hat you voted for me to wear in the Hat's Off To Winter contest. Please keep chuckles to a minimum; if you're going to laugh, just laugh and don't hold back 😎.

See you soon!
